On Sunday nights growing up we always went to our Grandma's house for steak and french fries. While Dad and Grandpa were busy in the backyard burning the steaks, Mom and Grandma were in the kitchen making French fries. These weren't your ordinary frozen crinkle cut, supermarket French fries; these were Grandma's southern style homemade French fries that were hand cut and then pan fried with onions. The smell of those fries cooking is the smell of my childhood.
The fries are crispy golden on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The onions are brown crispy and lend the fries their unique flavor. The secret ingredient? Well, I guess you'll have to taste 'em to figure out what it is.
